Dr. Susan Ballou Gibson

Dr. Gibson founded Commonwealth Periodontics and Implant Center when she began her surgical practice, limited to periodontal surgery and dental implants, in July 1991. Dr. Gibson is a native of Southeastern KY where she studied chemistry and music at the University of the Cumberlands. Dr. Gibson completed her Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 1988. She completed a one-year General Practice Residency at the Louisville VA Medical Center, followed by her Periodontal Surgical Residency at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. During her residency she received a Master of Dental Science with a minor in pathology from the University of Indiana School of Dentistry.

Throughout her career she has been intentional in bringing the newest techniques in dental implant treatment by hosting and teaching continuing education to dentists in her community.

Dr. Gibson is proud to be a member of a family of dental professionals including her husband, father and mother, daughter-in-law, sister, uncles, great uncle and great grandfather. Dr. Gibson has been married to her dental school study partner, Keith Gibson, since 1986 and considers her two children, Grant and Grace, her greatest joy. Dr. Gibson enjoys spending time with her family and volunteering her dental skills on international and local medical mission trips.
